Collage for Beginners and Beyond

Description:

Instructor: Beth Bynum

You don’t need drawing or painting skills to make a collage, but making one is more than cut and paste.

In this workshop, you’ll learn basic collage techniques while making several small pieces.  Some of the techniques include pulled paper, transfers, stamp making, and stenciling.  Bring an explorer’s attitude and see what can be done with paper scraps, photographic images and found objects.  Collage is the perfect medium since “anything goes”.  All skill levels welcome. As a child growing up on a farm in Kingsley, Michigan, Beth wanted to be both an artist and a teacher.  After graduating from Kingsley Area Schools, she attended Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City and graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was with the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Teec Nos Pos, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation. She returned to Michigan in 1976, and joined Buckley Community Schools, teaching 5th grade, 5/6th grade Science, 3/4/5th grade reading and writing, art, and computers. When not creating art, Beth enjoys reading, gardening, working on her house, teaching, and traveling. Her love of travel has taken her around the world, to Japan, India, Greece, Europe, and recently to Canada, Paris, and cross-country to see the redwoods.
