In this hands-on and delicious class, students will learn how to make pie crusts cut/blanch/season veggies and browning meat, preparing gravy, and top crust decoration. While they are baking, Julie will explain different types of pot pie variations that can be created with the same base as well as short cuts that can lessen time/cost spent. Participants will take home their own delicious pies.
Instructor info: Julie Brown is a seasoned chef who has been in the industry for 23 years. Born in Norfok, VA, she studied in Baltimore and DC as well as the Arts Institute in Virginia Beach. She's worked in many places along the east coast from Maryland to North Carolina, including corporate restaurants, military bases, mom and pop diners/bars, cultural cuisine, as well as professional catering. She currently lives in Beulah and is the Executive Chef at Crystal Lake Catering and Carried Away Gourmet.

Using Lavender Sugar and Lavender Syrup we will make and taste several drinks and baked items. We will also make savory roasted vegetables using Herbs de Provence.
Bio Jennifer and her husband, Don, live in Northwest Michigan in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area, where they grow lavender for sale at the Frankfort Farmer’s Market. She volunteers regularly at numerous organizations and events in the region and is a member of the Oliver Art Center board of directors. Flynn is also an accomplished artist who has been creating batik painting since 1987. She has exhibited in shows, galleries, and museums, and her work is in homes all over the world. In 2005 she received the award of “Best in Show” in fiber art at the Ann Arbor Art Fair. She has also authored and illustrated a children's book.
